| Example fender tag comes from 1968 Dart GT convertible. This was a bucket seat, no console car. Read more about the car at the Fender Tag Examples page. |
Except for some slight variances in the location of a few codes, 1967 and 1968 tags are identical in layout. For that reason, I'll discuss both of them together. The codes on the bottom line are the following in this order (left to right):

Tires codes are a two ro three digit word on the bottom line, fourth from the left. For three digit codes, the 3 digit denotes the count of the tires, most common is a "5" for 5 tires including a spare. for example, "435" means tire code "43" (7.75 X 14 White Stripe. 2-4 ply steel belt) including the spare ("5"). Email me if your tire code is missing. I will look it up and add it. This list is about 25% of the full listing, I included only the most common tire codes.

Sales codes for many options are located on the top line (under the lower case "abcde..y") and the middle line (under the upper case "ABCDE..Z"). The last digit in a sales code will appear in a designated location on the fender tag. for example, a car with an option code 421 for a Music Master Economy AM radio, will have a "1" under the "R" (see table below).

| Example fender tag comes from 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T. Read more about the car at the Fender Tag Examples page. |
Exterior Mouldings are a special listing under the "12345678" line above the bottom line on the fender tag. These cover things like wheel lip mouldings and belt line mouldings. Decoding them can be tricky, and a knowledge of what commonly came on a particular car is usual. It is very common to find a "5" here which may be "535 Drip Rail Mouldings", or an "8" for "548 Wheel Lip Mouldings" which were standard on many Premium Trim cars.
All 1967 and 1968 Chrysler passenger cars have the details of the rear axle listed on the fender tag. This is not the case for earlier tags (1966 and earlier) or later tags (1969 and later). Under the "AX" on the second line from the bottom is a one or two digit number. If it is a two digit number, the last number (number under the "X") will be an "8" for "408" Sure Grip limited slip differential. the absence of an "8" means it was an open differential. the number under the "A" indicates the axle ratio and type of axle carrier. The following table details those numbers and what represent.
| code under "A" |
Sales Code | Rearend | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 401 | 2.76 8-3/4" | |
| 2 | 402 | 2.94 8-3/4" or 2.93 7-1/4" | |
| 3 | 403 | 3.31 9-1/4" | C-body only |
| 4 | 404 | 3.23 8-3/4" or 7-1/4" | |
| 5 | 405 | unknown | |
| 6 | 406 | 3.55 8-3/4" or 3.54 9-1/4" | 9-1/4" with 440 or Hemi four speed |
| 7 | 407 | 3.91 8-3/4" | |
| 9 | 409 | Special Order Axle |
The codes under TRM and PNT trim and paint codes. They are discussed at Fender Tag Standards. See that page for decode information for these codes.
The codes under UBS are as follows:
| U | upper door frame paint | B=Black C=Lt.Blue D=Med.Blue E=Dk.Blue G=Green H=Tan J=Gold K=biege L=Dk.Turquoise Q=Dk.Red R=Red S=Pewter T=Copper U=Lt.Blue W=White Y=Med.Gold Z=Gold |
| B | buffed paint code | AA1 Silver Only |
| S | Stripes/Accent code | see 310-319 |
If a car same standard with a stripe, its code wouldn't be listed unless it was a non-standard color or unless it was specially optioned to not have the stripe. A WW1 White LS27 Dart GTS would not have a code under the "S" if it was equipped with the standard black stripe.
